P&C

Hello and welcome to Maroochydore State School and congratulations on your decision to have your children attend our great school!  I would like to take this opportunity to quickly introduce myself.

My name is Kylie Blake and I am the newly elected President of the Maroochydore State School Parents & Citizens Association for 2017.  I have been a parent of students attending the school on & off for the last 10 years and I have seen many changes throughout that time.

Our school has an active Parents & Citizens Association (P&C), so this will provide a brief overview of what the P&C does and answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

What does the P&C do?

The P&C is a group of community-minded people, parents and citizens, who take on a more formal role to assist the school in providing:

  • feedback on school policies and activities;
  • additional resources to be used to enhance student learning; and
  • parents with opportunities to be involved in their children’s education.

Our P&C contribute in the following ways:

  • Tuckshop – the P&C employs the Tuckshop Convenor (Bronwyn Stone), and has input into decisions made regarding the operation of the Tuckshop                        ^ open Fridays at first break
  • Uniform Shop – the P&C has a volunteer Uniform Shop Convenor (Helen Hawkins), and regularly revises purchasing options to ensure good quality, affordable uniform items are available for purchase                                               ^ open Mondays 8.15am to 9.00am (orders can be placed with the office outside these hours)
  • Catering & Chaperoning Events – e.g. sports carnival, school fun run, incursions (ie. arts performances), Mother’s/ Father’s Day stalls
  • Fundraising – e.g. applications for Government Grants, profits from Tuckshop/Uniform Shop, Bunnings BBQ’s, free dress days, ‘cookie dough’ drive, funds filtered back into school from Swan Newsagency (from purchases of new school year book packs) & Scholastic Book Club orders                                         ^ used for purchase of online student resources, building of playgrounds & resurfacing of existing softfall/sandpits, payment of incursions

Who is the current P&C Committee?

  • President – Kylie Blake
  • Vice President – Melissa O’Brien
  • Treasurer – Mandy Dunstan
  • Assistant Treasurer – Tracey Cook
  • Secretary – Melissa Goodwin

Who can be involved in the P&C?

Everyone is welcome to attend P&C meetings, but most people that do are parents of children at our school.  You do not need to be a ‘Member’ of the P&C unless you wish to hold an Executive position (e.g. President, Treasurer) or wish to have an official vote on major decisions.  Anyone can be present to provide input, give feedback or just listen to what is happening within the school.

P&C Meeting times

For the remainder of 2017, the P&C will meet on:

Second Monday of the month
8:45am
Staff Room in the Administration Building

Do I need to attend every meeting?

No.  The P&C meets once a month on a Monday during term times from 8.45am in the Staff Room at the end of the Administration building.  You are welcome to come to as many or as few meetings as you would like.  We also understand that often our littler ones stay at home with Mum/Dad so you may need to bring them too (bringing tech gadgets, colouring etc. is a great distraction).

Will I be pressured into volunteering?

There is no expectation that you will volunteer just because you attended a meeting.  Whilst the saying that “many hands make light work” is certainly true, we appreciate any assistance you can provide, whether it be your time or a donation of goods to the tuckshop/Bunnings BBQ throughout the school year.  We are also grateful for the support you give when ordering from the Tuckshop, purchasing items from the Mother’s/Father’s Day stalls, participating in Free Dress day ‘Gold Coin’ donations, Scholastic Book Club orders and new school year book packs from Swan Newsagency.

Who should I contact if I have any further questions?

Please do not hesitate to contact the School Office who will refer you to the appropriate person or alternatively, approach a Member of the Executive Committee should you have any queries and we will do our best to assist.

I wish to thank the 2017 P&C Committee, its Members, attendees, staff and fellow parents for having the faith in me and electing me as your new P&C President.  I will endeavour to exceed your expectations and I look forward to working with, and getting to know you all.
